Big bang questions.

I had R4 on in the car this PM whilst out on business and it sounded like I was listening to a "phone in with science uestions" type of progam?

One thing I don't understand about the big bang theory .............. actually, I don't understand any of it. What I specifically want to know is if all matter was created at the moment of the big bang then how can we be far enough away from the centre of the universe to look back (in time, effectively) towards the remnants of the big bang? Doesn't that imply that we/our bit of space and time has been moving faster than the speed of light?

About the only answer I can think of was that the creation of the universe did not just occur at one finite point in time and space?

I might have a look on't web tonight to see if I can hear the program again.

I think the 'look back in time' is because of the distance involved.

If you look towards the centre of the universe then because of the time it has taken for the light to reach us you are looking at what the universe looked like thousands of years ago.

Either that or it's because of my Aunty Mo. Einstien said it was all relative and I reckon it's her fault, she was always late.

I think when they 'look back in time' they are looking at the radiation and heat that rather than the light created at the big bang.

*sigh*
the matter was in the "universe" before it was created the major one was hydrogen but there were others... when these atoms gathered togther which increased there gravity pulling in more and more matter eventualy the gravity was so huge that all the atoms were fused together (neuclear fusion) creating more and more types of matter including the ones that make up all life (carbon, oxygen, nitrogen ect.) eventuly the gravity got soooo huge that everything in this ball of mater snaped outwards (like what happends when you over stretch a lakky band but in reverse) this "snapping" propeled matter across the univers at faster than the speed of light... ( i dunno how fast ) and this matter is still moving outwards.

as the matter moved outwards it all gatherd together creating planets and galaxies (ie the milky way)

when they "look back in time" they are looking at how much the electromagnetic spectrum is shifted to the red end... the further to the red end the further and faster it is moving away from us by looking at this shift they can judge how far the matter has moved

*educational rant over*

My point is; IF we/Earth is a creation (indirectly) of the results of the big bang then how can we be so far away from the big bang compared to how long ago it happened. Given "how far back in time" we can see due to the amount of time it has taken the light to get here then doesn't that imply we must have moved here faster than the light we are now looking at? Nothing travels faster than the speed of light?

If someone is on a ship travelling close to the speed of light and they shine a light in the direction they are travelling does that exceed the speed of light, if you see what I mean?

I thought there wasnt enough energy to create the heavier atoms at the time of the Big Bang, werent they created by stars imploding and releasing huge amounts of energy (after the Big Bang), albeit not very long after.

Blimey! there i was thinking the big bang theory was what occured after an unaccompanied posting, 3 bangs involved......... bang one, front door opening......... bang two, kit bag hitting the floor........bang three, (big bang) niether of the afformentioned...... and it did'nt really 'matter' if she wore a red shift or a blue one! who cared if you were coming or going?

nope the energy the big bang was at least 2 times bigger than even the biggest star imploding

nothing in the present travles faster than the speed of light except light itself, but in the beging the mater travled faster (i cant prove it except for the red shift being evidence)

if you shind a torch in these circumstances you would not be able to see any better than befor as the light would barley leave the torch the speed of light is fixed no matter what to answere your question no
