Another "I'm not sure where to put this" thread.

I wonder if Adam said that to Eve?

I would like to offer some advice to the GUE/DIR people of the world and I didn't want to put it in the DIR bit of the forum lest I be thought of as a stirrer. The fact that my nick name is Spoon is irrelevant!

My marketing advice is very simple and that is to stop abbreviating the name of your Fundamentals course. Of course this may be a deliberate abbreviation that your students may not fully realise the significance of until it is too late? Even so, I would not call the course "fun dies".

I have also wondered if there will ever be any change to the GUE/DIR "allowed list" and if there was to be any change who makes those decisions (AIUI GUE/DIR should be thought of as 2 seperate entities)?

I suppose any training agency would be loathe to change it's course materials or methods. I'd guess BSAC had to respond to the PADI onslaught in the early days and everyone has had to respond to EANx becoming a common dive gas.

It may be unfair but my perception is the GUE/DIR would be more anti change than any other agency?

Why change when they're already Doing It Right?

That is an obvious conclusion and, I don't doubt, a little part of why the rebranding to the less contentious and more exciting name of Global Underwater Explorers was made?

I suppose the underlying proncipals of GUE can remain unchanged regardless and I suppose it is only the 'acceptable kit' list that is likely to change? I just wondered who could make the change. If someone agreed with me over FFMs, for example, would they have to leave and start their own agency or ..................?

I think that's the whole problem. No one likes an evangelical self-righteous self-promoter.
It is irrelevant if you actually believe that they are Doing It Right or not.

Not so much CAN as MUST.

I believe that if better equipment comes along we could Do It Better, though.

Could the Scouts introduce DIB diving?

Having given further thought to this I think GUE can stick with the 'fundies' name but extend it to:-

Do the fundies course and the fun dies but you won't (at least, you shouldn't).

Oooo you are so anti!

Terry have you ever done a Fundies? I could say i'd rather IANTD or TDI 'stick' their courses but i wont cos ive not tried them - yet.

I think you should both take your anti - ness to the agency poll for a proper ruck! There has been a dissappointing lack of any fights in there today
