| Forget Haynes, check out Park Tools Once you get serious about this you'll need to spend a couple of £hundred on decent tools, but you can get the bare essentials for less than £50. |

| Worked in the trade when I was just out of school and while some of the tools look a bit specialised, a lot of the time you can get around having to use them. Your normal everyday, run of the mill tools work i most cases. IN know from experience from working a state of the art workshop to helping a guy out who was starting a bike shop and had feck all decent tools so had to make do with ordinary tools and stripped knuckles!!

| The Haynes bike book is a good place to start and while you might need to buy some thin spanners they are not expensive and servicing a bike isn't rocket-science - just a tad fiddly at times and may cause temporary sense of humour failure. A cheap stand for the bike's rear wheels is a good investment. Hugh |
