That means 57% wont. But if the headline was put as "57% of drivers won't see an increase in car tax" then that's not quite as grabbing, is it?
Fair enough, but presumably that's 43% of total car users, not 43% of people who own cars built after 2001?
If this is case than I would imagine that the percentage of people affected who own cars made after 2001 would be a lot higher?

Its ridiculous to think that the rate for a car I was looking at is 3 times what I pay now, despite my car probably putting out higher emissions.

IMHO the 'green' road tax is b***ocks, because people will just drive old s**theaps that cough out allsorts of fumes to avoid the new tax.

Good point and very true, cars excempt from tax i.e. 'classics' {anything over 25 yrs I believe} are fuel hungry and pollute a damn sight more than most new landrovers

And yet they (the politicians) still drive around in their less than two year old Gas Guzzling Jags etc that WE the taxpayers are paying for! (not just the RFL, but their fuel, their insurance, their car, their garage, their servicing...)

How many of them drive around in Smart type cars?

True. So true that it was done in about 1918.
About 1933 they reintroduced RFL whilst forgetting to remove fuel duty.

Let's do as you suggest, add yet more duty to fuel and wait a few years for RFL to be introduced again.
(This was irony, btw)

I disagree, well, not with your logic, but the fact that on the news this morning they were quoting the number "9,000,000 motorists" so weren't even relying on %s?

Ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Digger heads home to drive a car with the carbon footprint of belgium. A 2.8 injection gas guzzling tank of a car, made in 1986. Ha ha ha ha ha.

I'm getting paranoid though. I think they're coming for me soon...

Just a moment of pedantry:

The Road Fund License (i.e. hypothecated funds from taxation on vehicles that pay towards building and maintaining the roads) was scrapped in the UK in 1936.

Since 1936 the tax collected has formed part of general taxation, and is called the Vehicle Excise Duty.

Here endeth the lesson.
