| The irony of the vehicle emmissions is the fact that I had a Scania HGV which was built with a Euro1 emmissions engine but a few years ago I took it to Holland to register it over there ( cheaper tax & cheaper insurance about £7000 a year ) For the Mot over there they tested the emmissions & certified it to Euro 3 ! So when it came back to uk about 3 years later guess which certificate I used ![]()

| What I would like to know is how come my enviromentally friendly bike, which cuts congestion, takes less parking spaces and does more mpg than most cars with less emissions is now going to cost more to tax than a lot of family cars...

Easy.....because its a simple thing to demonise nasty hells angles bikers and people driving big 4X4s that other people want but cant afford. If you looking for hard data to back up you logic then yes its a bit of a struggle but little inconsequential facts like that never stopped Hitler. Tax the bollocks off people but dont loose the majority vote. Dispite the fact the Majority suddenly find they are included in the tax rip off. Death duties any one??? ATB Mark

| This has really got on my t*ts ok raise tax if you choose to buy a big car in the future you know the score before hand but not if you already own one. I can run my car no problem with the increase it'll just get passed onto my customers just like the fuel prices have (one major customer is shell before anyone moans) Yes i can afford to change my car but why should i? instead i'm going to treat myself and take a leaf out of diggers book i'll be buying myself a carbon footprint bigger than irelands which will be fine because i'll make sure it's a 2000 car shove that up your hoop gordon robber brown. I find it funny how all of a sudden loads of ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras have shot up around the country just before all this or is that just my suspicious mind? I never ever thought i'd say this but i will not be voting Labour in the next election i am working class and goes against everything i was brought up to believe but this has cost them a vote and no doubt many more. If he wants to get tough on eco issues and raise money great here is an idea you can have for free. From now on everyone who claims benefits reports every morning to the local tip and sorts through all the rubbish placing it into sections for recycling that way we help the environment and scroungers earn their money (wonder how long before they get a real job) therefore lowering government spending. sorry rant over it's just got right on my tits ![]()

| The stupid thing is that it has nothing to do with CO2. You could have a very low mileage but big engined car sat on your drive all year and still pay more tax than the person who uses the Clio instead of walking. Put the tax on consumption (i.e. at the pump) not on the car. However putting more tax on fuel is politically unacceptable so Gordon puts a stealth tax on cars instead.
