| It is long past time when the RFL should have been scrapped and replaced by a tax on fuel so that the heaviest users contribute the heaviest amount? I'd rather they concentrated on cutting unnecessary bureaucracy and 'snout trough dipping' first before asking us to pay more in taxes.

| Renault clio deisel, 55 mpg and 35 quid a year to tax, carries two divers and two sets of kit no prob... I dont hold with all the so called green taxes as most of the initiatives are nothing more than fund raising ideas to pay for a war 1000 s of miles away that is nothing to do with us. I only drive this car to save my own pocket, would prefer a hilux 2.5 pickup but hey... c'est la vie |

| It's a great big non-news event. 43% of people will see an increase. That means 57% wont. But if the headline was put as "57% of drivers won't see an increase in car tax" then that's not quite as grabbing, is it?

At the risk of someone invoking Godwin's law, this is a classic government strategy. Pick on a few minorities that most of us can vilify, e.g. city driven 4x4's, then extend it a bit, big cars, then anything that's not a Smart Car, then before long the only people driving cars are those that make the rules.

| Trouble is a lot of the people hit by the increases either don't worry about affording it because it's a company car or it's the little man struggling to feed his family already . I would agree that the easy way is to put it on fuel except you can steal fuel as has been seen recently In al honesty I will pay £100 a year more on my car which is £2 per week ,will it make me change car ? NO . will it make me cut down on the mileage I do ? NO so its a non starter on green issues. If the government was actually honest ( god forbid) & didn't try to hide all increases behind the "green " umbrella then maybe people would actually pay more attention to green issues . But there are so many government "green" policies that IMO it's actually harming the true green policies .
