I must admit to forming a strong bond with a particular tree in Ullswater last year. He held me in his arms while I soaked up the glorious landscape and Dan decided I was entirely "out of my tree" when I took time to say goodbye on our last day

On a slightly different but vaguely related subject, every morning on my way to work I walk past a garden with a lavender bush overhanging the pavement.

Every morning I rub my fingers on the flowers because the smell instantly takes me back to when I was a little girlie of about four or five, and we had a lavender bush in our garden that I used to play next to because I liked the smell.

It also reminds me of my mum, because she loved her garden and was always out working in it while I was playing. I only see her once a year now, as she lives in Crete, but I told her about the lavender bush and she's going to get one for their balcony over there.

You do realise that trees may be considered to be a phallic symbol and you have had your hands and legs wrapped round something that may only be described as ....... well ....... woody!

Good on you. If the tree doesn't mind then more power to skyward ambitions. Tree climbing is a much underrated pastime. Is it still allowed by the HSE?

I too like rubbing my fingers through bushes ........... although I'm not so keen on the smell ........... still, lavender is good. Oh, don't forget, lavender is supposed to attract sperm. That scientist had too much time, and something else, on his hands?

I don't know. I'm not really sure if it was lavender, it might have been some other plant? I recollect the story very well because it was being proposed as a great benefit for men whose sperm count wasn't as high as normal and .............
