If you can put up with the yummy mummy or drug dealer tag as an alternative X5's are really superb cars. I really didn't want to like it when Nicola bought it but I am completely sold on it now. I preferred the look of the XC90 but the Volvo engines do suck and if you don't need the 5+2 seats there are better options out there.

My opinion - hope it helps

G .

Sorry I didnt include the X5 as its a small hatch back not a large 4X4

X5 Hatch back is 235 BHP

CRD is 215

X5 0-60 8.1

CRD 0-60 9.0

Volvo XC90 185bhp 11.1 I beleive the 165 was 14 seconds

X5 SE Auto £41,000

CRD Limited £32,600

It's not a 4x4, it's a Volvo with four wheel drive. It might have bells and whistles but it's still a Volvo, just like a Grand Cherokee is still a Chrysler...

The two worst cars I've ever owned, one a Volvo, the other a Grand Cherokee. I've never had to sink so much money into cars, horrendous reliability and build quality. I used to love Cherokees, I had one when I lived in the US and another when I came back (on LPG, their crappy diesels are moneypits) but now they've been fully Chryslerised I wouldn't touch another. The happiest day of my Grand Cherokee ownership was collecting the money from the auction mart and seeing it sat on the yard with four flat tyres and an ever growing pool of tranny oil surrounding it. The Volvo I had was 9 months of almost weekly failures, breakdowns, repairs, etc.

Isuzu, Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi make 4x4's, the rest make school buses with an expensive transmission...

Cheers,

Stuart
