A wry comment with a smilie is one thing, especially from the big G himself - who has to live with his OCDishness - but a whole thread and poll making a dig out of it?

I'm not so sure.

If he's ok with it then it becomes part of the fame and lore of Jamie G, and thats OK.
But if it's going to put him off posting and carrying on as normal, then less so.

I'm still gonna vote though.....I vote yes!
Not that I think his polls are useless btw, just that he could pick up the ball and run with it so to speak.

I would be very surprised if JamieG was offended but if he is then I would apologise profusely for misjudging his humour and remove the thread immediately. It was intended as late night fun with the Dude.

That said, I don't understand where the indignation on behalf of others whose relationships are unknown, comes from.

Next time Steve S calls you Jimmy Krankie should I expect a host of complaints?
Mal

My indignation is because you criticised people on Nat's thread for allegedly knocking her enthusiasm (even though the main issue people seemed to have was her age in relation to her course) and yet here you are knocking the enthusiasm of another member. It feels like double standards to me.

I have no problem with people calling my Jimmy Krankie and whatever other names. Most of the time YD is full of very healthy banter. However, posting a thread suggesting that another member's polls are useless when that person is not even online to join in the 'fun' is not on, in my opinion.

I have met most of the regular posters on here with whom I exchange banter, but we sometimes forget that not everyone knows each other so well. If I woke up to find a thread suggesting my calls for help about diving on a diving related forum were being poked fun at I would be hurt, therefore I am upset on behalf of another member whether they feel that way or not.

It's not double standards at all .... the thread about Nat was very reminiscent of the poke at Naomi S and B and if your memory goes back far enough then Clare Gledhill as well.

It was a tone I picked up amongst a number of posters in that thread and I know from interractions with other members I was not alone.

This post was in fun completely ..... have you similarly lambasted the Dude .... who posted the comment first? No course you haven't .....

There is some genuine nastiness which goes on on YD and where I see it, I try to put in a word by pm to try to stop it or guage whether it is affecting the individual concerned. Doing that by pm seems to be less "grand standy" from my pov.

Red face

Interesting thread.............................

Am I offended? No.

Do I have OCD? - Yes.

Can I take a joke? - Yes.

Will I continue to ask questions? - Yes.

Well done Jamie for taking it in the spirit it was intended.

Now can l expect the the same type of anti bullying support next time someone l've never met leaves the E off Dude or calls me a pikey or mentions my size or age?

l may start a poll myself in the rants forum. WTF do people keep moaning about non diving posts?

When we all meet up diving we don't talk about diving 100% of the time in the pub, that would be feckin boring. This forum is very different from other diving forums and is more of a social networking site.
If it was just about diving it would become as sterile as backslappers.com
