Buying on t'internet from Channel Islands

I believe it's if the value is under £18 you don't pay duty, above and you do. They even warn you about it on the 7dayshop website and if you make multiple purcheses, they package them in under £18 packs where possible.

I've recently had some parts from China and they were labelled "commercial samples" and no duty was applied.

You're right Leigh and I think stuff can be sent as gifts up to £36. I might have recently received something a bit over that figure from 7day without tax but then again I might not have

its almost as if they are trying to make u buy in this country by levvying lots of tax on purchases from abroad?

The only downside of buying stuff and having the item listed well below it's value is if you have to make a claim for loss, you will only get what is declared on the outside. Bit of a bummer if you have ordered a lens or camera worth several hundred pounds and it is declared as £50!!

Saying that, I have used 7dayshop with no problems in the past

i think you may be storing up future problems for ourselves. Won't take much for customs to wise up to 'alternative labeling' and stop and hold some packages until the owner turns up and reveals all to a customs officer. I doubt theres enough officers to do this at the moment but if theres a buck to be made and contracted out to a commercial company it won't be long.

They do, even if you buy several items they will package them up into several parcels that total under £18 each.

Well sorry chaps, no sympathy here. There are plenty of business's not just dive shops or suppliers who pay their bit to inland revenue and are struggling along with the rest of us in these uncertain times.

So people buy from abroad where they are not confined to our taxes and then winge about paying import tax, well didums. I do believe in a level playing field and to many countries are able to take advantage of less taxation lower wages etc etc.

Import duty is well named it should be your duty to play fair.
