Well I don't have a crystal ball, you did say you were similarly clobbered to Paul the OP who was charged import tax .
I am sure they will accept your donation of import duty on top of vat and the post office charge. Bet it starts to make your LDS look a bit more attractiveplus you get a coffee at mine.
So up to 3p now![]()
Disappointingly none of my LDS stocked the item I was after (Cressi Flex BCD), nor did they show any interest in obtaining one when I asked them about it.
I didn't want to go internet for it as I wanted to try the size.
Still, was pleased with it so good result overall.![]()
Wasn't looking for sympathy as i'm sure you'll realise, i accept that it's all legal and above board etc etc etc all I was trying to do was make folk aware that they are liable for tax, VAT or whatever. wasn't whinging so perhaps the "DIDUMS" was childish and inappropriate?
My 2p also!!!

Paul.
I have no problem in paying the tax (VAT or whatever) ... it was the £8 the courier charged on top for taking my money and passing it to the tax man that got me ...

How is it covered if you take a ferry out there with some dive gear in your car and come back with say an extra jacket or reg set?
Can you spare a few cpu cycles to help find cures for diseases...?
If so, why not consider donating to Folding@Home.

Paul, your comment................
"You're right Leigh and I think stuff can be sent as gifts up to £36. I might have recently received something a bit over that figure from 7day without tax but then again I might not have"
Suggests you knew you might be able to avoid the duty/tax/vat implications that you might have known should be applied.
You might not be looking for sympathy, but i would suggest you are looking to play on a different playing field to the rest of us ?
Oh behave why the angry face at paying import duty(thats a whinge). You knew full well its a tax haven, and as such were liable. You just got caught this time . Save your 2p for the revenue boys.
Childish and inappropriate "nah nah na nah na paul got nabbed for income duty" may qualify for childish but probably not inappropriate
Death and the taxman they both get you in the end.

First time i've quoted one of my own posts but that part of the OP is what the thread was about, not whinging, not looking for sympathy just a reminder to the masses. Yes, I am fully aware of the tax implications of buying from Channel Islands but not everyone is and yes of course it still left a sour taste when I handed the cash over but I accepted it with good grace "It's a fair cop" and all that!
Perhaps the Angry Face was the wrong icon to choose perhapswould have been a better choice

I can't say I had the same experience from Apnea - a couple of years ago I bought my Suunto Gekko from them, for £129 plus £4 p&p, and had no import taxes at all. It also arrived the same day. Guess it depends on how big the package is as well then...
