    What a summer
It was a great summer. I was 18 and had a great building job through the summer. Every night down the Old Town quaffing a cool lager or 6. If I remember correctly 'Oh I'm Going To Barbados' was in the charts (on the radio all the time) and I had bought "The Captain and Me" by The Doobie Brothers which I still rate as one of my fave albums.

Oh God, I want to go back!!!!

I do, and I also recall some terrifyingly grim serial that was on the saturday mornings that involved a dwarf, a metal tree and a funny coloured pond. It was horrifically overdubbed and disturbing. Can't remember the name.

Speaking of staurday am and bad dubbing - the flashing blade(?) was actually watchable (if you're an 8 year old boy). Then - of course the immortally scrummy Sally James. ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeahhhhhhhhhh.

I was never allowed to watch tv on a saturday morning. I had to be outside playing, even if it was pouring with rain, snowing, hailing...

If you have to think about it for more than thirty seconds, you probably shouldn't get in.

Aye, it was fcukin' hot with the southern sector of the North Sea often like a mill-pond as I recall. Travelling to work through Gt.Yarmouth you could see the 'Jaws' fever had worn off from the previous year, everyone was in the see... it was fcukin' hot! Which reminds me - can I take the brick out of the cistern now?

There were several weird morning tv progs during the school holidays…. Robinson Crusoe, where the prog started with Crusoe walking along a beach --- the 3 musketeers badly dubbed --- something about 6 white horses — a bit latter the Double Deckers and The Banana Splits.

And then Saturday morning pictures until along came the Saturday morning milk round and Sunday morning paper round and money

Towards the end of the decade (1977) I discovered Cigarettes 10 number 6 and a box of matches 15p or if you was skint 10 number 10 or B & H Sovereign, the delights of outside cigarette machine and school dinner money

And the cans of beer the older boys got for us, Breaker, Long life or Harp or taking bottles of woodpecker to parties
