Tis true
Usually for Nited matches a few enterprising souls have waved cars carrying local supporters(you know, Basingstoke, Cardiff, London,Dubai etc.etc.)onto private land only to disappear when kick off approaches leaving them at the mercy of wardens and clampers.

Seconded, I was brought up within spitting distance of the ground and honestly this is your best bet... or parking at a friendly divers house as mentioned earlier.

If some little scrotes offer to mind your car for a cpl of quid.... pay them... they wont mind the car but if you dont pay they will nick the wheels....

I went and watched Lancashire v Sussex play at Trafford Park 2 weeks ago and parked in offical car park but around the corner from the main gates and it cost £5 and we entered the ground near the 2 tiered covered stand.

That idea tickles me so much I may get up the market tomorrow and buy a hi-vis jacket I don't care about taking the fivers, it's worth just to watch them come back to their cars.
