Anti virus

Spyware, Spam, Virus, Internet Security Protection | McAfee Internet Security Suite

I had to get a new laptop as the old one finally gave up the ghost, luckily just after a back up of important files .

the new one with Vista home premium comes with the McAfee product shown in the link as a trial for 30 days then you have to get the full product licence

any good or should I ditch it and get something else.

I used to run Norton AV adware spybot and zone alarm on the old laptop but that was XP.

help!!!!

McAfee was good years ago (don't know now) but there are plenty of decent free ones out there

I use AntiVir antivirus software, that's also free.I also use zone alarm free edition as a software firewall. The others are right, paying for security software is completely optional nowadays.

well as long as nobody seems to have had problems with AVG and Zone alarm I will go with these.

I use AVG and Zonealarm on some machines and Avast on others, all free, all work OK.

I've also used Norton and McAfee in the past and they were both bloated and severly slowed the computers down. I wouldn't pay for either of them, in fact I had 6 free months of Norton when I bought my last laptop and I took it straight off.

Free software I always use for keeping the computer clean are:

Firewall - Zonealarm
Antivirus - AVG or Avast
Spyware - Adaware SE & Spybot S+D
Registry Cleaner - CCleaner
