How long can you run a portable DVD player powered by your car battery using the cigarette lighter before it would drain the battery to much to start the car ?

Or would a fully charged spare battery last for the two weeks playing 3 hours per day (absolute max)

We are off camping this year and want to use a DVD player to entertain our eight year old son if it rains etc

there is little box that lets you run things off your car battery ,,, then when the voltage gets to sat 12.3 v it turns off everything ,, you press the reset button , start your car on the 12.3 volts , charge up your battery and away you go again ,, easier than fitting a split charge relay and a second battery ,,, hth

i only know about them as my mate left one on my kitchen table yesterday , it was meant to go on an out board ,,,, it says on it not for diesel engines ,, but ill bet itly an amperage thing ,,, 35 quid i think ,, 15 and you will own it , pluss post ...lol

its designed for boats ,, just read the instructions ,, so i dont really see it being a prob , its called a battery buddy , worth an interweb search and see what you think , i think it would do your job ,, but see if you turn up anything yourself , id not seen one till yesterday , really simple solution to an age old problem .

You could get an inverter.

It will give you 240v and some of the bigger ones come with the safety cutoff so you don't drain your car battery, they will work with any engine.

Although I think the ones that have the cutoff may have to be hardwired to the battery.

You could always get some thing like this just in case you do flatten the battery.

If you look around, there are also some with power inverters (giving 240v), but check the CURRENT output (ie: 300watts) against the consumption rating of the appliance.
Note. expect (obviouly) to pay a bit more for this type of thing, and weigh up whether the extra price is worth it to you.
