Or, you could keep the A class and use the 15K as a downpayment on a Porsche Carrera 4, buy it PCL and pay about £600 a month for three years. Vrrrrrrroooooooooooooommmmmmmmmm

Incidentally, how much is the number plate ?
1. don't like BMW's, they tend to be driven by company car drivers or drug dealers

2. £15k + (36 x £600) + very large final payment = bankrupt chartered surveyor

3. offers, see Personal Ad's section

Strangely enough I'm just going through this meself.

Have bought (pre-ordered - not out till September) a Peugeot 407 SW SE HDi 136 Automatic (Porsche Tiptronic)! (Yes - Tiptronic on a diesel!!) Got them to throw in a couple of extras for list price (sat nav and JBL sound system) for just shy of £20k. Insurance Group 10E. Tax Band C (so £145 per year). However, it can be got without the toys for circa £18k.

I drove the 407 standard (not the SW as they don't have one yet) and it's a fantastic car - but I'm biased - after having got through a Lancia Delta Integrale, a couple of VW Corrado's (G60 and VR6) and a Scooby-Doo, I moved over to a Pug diesel (306DTurboS, then 306 HDi Estate) when I had kids and I won't look back. I've test driven the Audi's (very uncomfortable), BMW's (what - you don't even get electric windows?), Merc's (Nice, shame about the handle coming off in my hand) and the Pug still won me over!

The SW is the estate (station wagon) version. It's got a panoramic glass roof!

Brochure is http://www.peugeot.co.uk/ppp/PPPWEBU...7/407%20SW.pdf

Just heard, however, that they're about to launch one (next year) which has a 2.7 litre V6 HDI Automatic. Should be pretty quick.

Mark.

here's a tip for BMW drivers

just a little reminder for BMW drivers

THE RULES DO APPLY TO YOU AS WELL

and that includes things like:

the 'left turn' lane - being in that lane means you are going to turn left, it does not mean 'bomb along past all the other cars until the very last minute then look surprised / hurt / stupid when other cars beep at you for pushing your way in.

The little white lines in car parks are designed for you to park between. Not across. Now I know you are worried that the spaces are too little for your pride and joy, but trust me, like your knob, your car is smaller than you imagine.

Having said that, sometimes your car is bigger than you think. Like when you pull out into the BMW lane (sorry, I mean lane 3) on the motorway you may want to make sure there is space for you to pull into. That car in your mirror with flashing lights and beeping horn isn't congratulating you for your choice of car.

and whilst I am on the subject of information for the BMW driver:

Sometimes you will be overtaken. Accept it. Why not let the other car drive away, they are obviously in a hurry. Being overtaken should not be taken as an invitation to race.

When people pull faces or make gestures at you, it's not becuase they are jealous of your car. It's because you are a tosser.

Andy

p.s. can I expect a load of red blobs from 'beemer' drivers now? Like I care.

Thumbs up Gotta be a Landie.

Landie Discovery mate. 2.5L, carries a shed-load of dive kit, plus your bivvy gear and passengers to boot! Should get a gorgeous 2nd-hand one for 18 large.

Don't forget with the "disco" you get a free oil pump failure and seized engine after only 24,000 miles!

Smile I don't beleeeeive it?

I can't believe no one has mentioned people carriers?

I bought one to go diving with and it happily takes four divers with complete kit and weekend bags. The family will love it. You can have seven seats or as few as two which leaves a load space like a van. It drives pretty much like a car and has all the toys, on top of that I put a GAS conversion in it to make it even cheaper to run as I wanted a bit of poke from the 2.3i 150bhp engine.

I am thinking of replacing it next year but it will definately be with another people carrier, though it might be another model just for the change.

Go and see a few, that's all I ask.

James

VDub Golf Estate

Go for one of the fastest diesels around Golf SE 1.9 TDI estate, lots of toys, goup 8 insurance, 128 BHP, 60 ish MPG on a run. A mate at work has one goes like stink and my Pug 1.9 HDI turbo hasn't a chance against it. The service intervals are from 9K to 30K apparently this depends on the type of driving you do, so far he has done 18K in 15 months and not had a service due for one in mid Sept.
forgot the price about £16K OTR tax £115

Hi,

I spent ages (just ask Chasey) ended up with an MG ZT-T. Huge 2.5L V6, handles like a saloon car but is a massive estate. Got it with 16K miles on the clock 16 months old for 14,950. Plus they gave me £3.5K for a very knackerd W reg Focus with 98,500 on the clock.

There desperate, so a really good buy at the moment. The car is BMW designed, incredibly well built, really good speck and a better drive than both the Audi or the Saab equivelant. I didn't check the beamers decided that the Audi was over priced for the spec, the BMW was not going to be any better.

I can really recommend it as a car. I have had a hell of a lot of cars in my time and this is one of the best..

Take a look at one you will be impressed.

Take care,

Andrew

No no
You need a v8 of the landrover/range rover ilk but must be lpg cheeper than a diesel to run and more fun sounds right also.
