Big Kit bins

I got my hands on some recycled 120L barrels with lock on lids that hold all my kit (with the exception of cylinder and weights, if I want to move it!)

I wanted to get some opinion as to weather you lot think that they would be useful. I also, can get hold of smaller ones with handles which I think would make a good boat dry box.

I find it good, especially when I have to soak my kit after a dive in the sea.

The only modification I will make to mine, when I find a suitable valve, is to put a small tap in the bottom to let out the water. They do fit into the back of my Vauxhall astra, and stop it getting wet on the way home?

Thoght of putting some form of diver logo onto it to make it a little more attractive.

As for cost, about £20.00 but I may be able to get them cheaper if I buy a lot.

Postage would be my other issue.

If anyone has any advice I would love to hear from you.

attached a picture if anyone wants a look at what this nutter from Chorley is on about!

Regards
Alan

A few years ago a couple of friends of mine used these bins. One couple kept both set of kit in one barrel. They thought they were really usefull.

I once tried to find a small barrel for use on the boat but gave up looking. I now use a gear gulper.

Also known as BDH barrels mate.

We used these loads when i used to be a watersports instructor. Only real problem with them is if they get dented, they are very difficult to pop back into shape!

As for your tap, i would suggest something very low profile as it will be liable to be knocked off when shifting the barrels about. Maybe a simple bung would do?

I still use one of these. Very usefull on hardboats without seats. There used to be a lot of them.

I'd say don't drill any holes. OK, so you way carry a little water when your gear is wet, but any tap is likely to het knocked. A 5 or 6mm bolt thread into the plastic may be better for not getting knocked, but I have a better idea once you have got it home and washed your kit.

Turn it upside down.

Large plastic boxes

Anybody know where to get one of these large enough to put a bauer junior compressor in? Approx 800lx350wx450h internal dimensions needed so much larger than a Gear gulper. I need something so it can be transported by RIB to remote divesites so plastic with a half decent lid is what is needed. Web search has not shown anythin obvious yet...................

Big Orange Box

RB,

I have two big Orange crates, but only use one, it's like a huge gear gulper. I will measure it tonight and let you know the size, if it's big enough and you want it, it's yours. I was given in for nothing, so happy to pass it on,

PM you tomorrow

Paul

I just spoke to them this afternoon to order a bunch of their boxes to store a dozen new sets of school kit, they were really friendly and didn't even charge for shipping.
