Inflating blob from exhaust bubbles- marvellous

Tried it for the first time last night in the pool. And what an utter piece of piss it is too. Even tried it blind with my mask off and it was a doddle. Although much easier with a side exhaust (Jetstream) than a standard reg (TX40).

You can take your Buddy DSMBCi's and stick them where the sun doesn't shine.

Swithland.

And OK I take your point with the YBOD. Although knowing you your blob is flourescent pink with a fashing light on top, a red nose, wiggling ears and a comedy horn fitted to the over pressure valve.

I agree (and always send by blob up that way) but try it in a raging current and I'm sure you will feel differently!

Humm... Fightin' talk huh?

This was in mid water I assume. Holding depth. Any fool can do it clunked on the bottom but holding depth in the pool is impressive. You want three breaths and getting that third in while holding level means fast.

And you practiced recovering the reg with the DSMB line wrapped round it? I think two in the incident reports over the last couple of years.

I really do like inflating a blob well away from my face and well in view.

Yes it was- holding mid-water in the pool. A little huff to unfurl then 2 full breaths into the blob. Hold the whole shebang out in front of you then unlock the reel. Bye-bye blob.

A little off topic, but i've found that with the "standard" Buddy DSMBs (self-sealing ones) the webbing strap on them is probably too long. Might just be the way I do it, but I found that with the strap that long I ended up with that and the line loose, just waving around ready to catch on something.

The solution: I found that shortening the strap makes it so much easier. If you don't want to cut it, then just fold it back on itself a few times and keep it in place with a little bit of line or a cable tie or something. My strap is now just a little longer than the width of the DSMB. [Edit: see attachment for picture]

If anyone does have problems with too much loose line when they're deploying, this really does seem to work really well.

David

I always deploy this way too and find it works well.

I always make darn sure my reel and line are held well away from me though - last thing you need when about to start ascent is to be dragged up by a tangle, with out reg and/or mask

wbsdave, like your idea of shortening the strap on the buddy blob - another cable tie added to my kit

Dave.
