I hold my reel in my left hand and also part of the bottle, turn the valve on slowly with right hand and then press trigger to send bag up.

Wink

I know that much credence is given to being self sufficient, but if your buddy operates the reel then there are fewer problems.

I know of two SOP's where a buddies reel is tied in either to the blob, or to the primary reel, with the latch open. then if reel one jams or gets caught ........ up it goes on reel 2.

Personally, I just crack the bottle slightly using the finger and thumb of the hand holding the latch open and the other hand. This gives a slow inflate, is easy to handle, and cos its open it'll be fully inflated at the surface. I think the days when we lauched Polaris missiles are over....... oh how we did try to get as much air in those open bags to ensure they fully inflated!!!

Cheers, Paul

Try taking the knob off if you have an open type reel (doesn't work with the enclosed ones!). It winds up quite easily without it and removes the most common tangle risk.

I just used one for the first time on my adv. nitrox/deco. proc. and think they are great. MUCH less hassle than exhaust/octo inflation of standard blob. I will be getting one soon.
(no problem opening valve either, holding reel in right hand still leaves fingers free to fondle knob...)

You can still fill it in the normal way if you do forget to fill the bottle, just kind of defeats the purpose :-) So make sure you practice filling it normally as well just in case, as it's a little bit more fiddly with the extra weight compared to a standard dsmb.

silvasurfa saw the sea in a book once
I have the 0.1 bottle and it fills the dsmb perfectly. The whole package is a little large tho. A friend has the 0.2 bottle and it just makes the whole package too bulky to stow. As for getting two fills from the 0.2, thats not the case, as the over inflation valve just lets the excess pressure out and the 0.2 bottles empties everytime. I would always refill the 0.2 bottle before a dive anyway, just to be sure there was enough air inside to do the job.
Hope this helps

Pete.
AP Valves no longer do the 0.2L cylinder so we are no longer spoilt for choice

I tried to buy one from them a little while ago and was told they had stopped them
