| I bought a set of the "legendary three-finger penguin mitts" - O3 ones from Andy at Dales Divers. They're luurrrvvvly.. 40-45 minutes in 5c water - just starting to get cold pinkies..

| OK - gloves acquired and wet tested, verdict time. Pinnacle Karbonflex 4mm Merino lined gloves are acceptable but not brilliant for a 30 min dive in 5c water. Your hands are not warm, but are not painful or numb by the end of the dive. Pinnacle Karbonflex 4mm Merino lined gloves are not acceptable for a 20 min dive in 3c water. Your fingers become too numb to operate your drysuit inflator valve properly, or do any kind of task at all. When you manage to pull the gloves off your swollen, blue, hands and try to rub some feeling back into them, you experience a great deal of pain as the circulation returns. You stagger around the dive site swearing loudly. Poseidon 6mm three-finger mitts, purchased during your surface interval, are acceptable for a 30 minute dive in 3c water. Your hands are not exactly warm, but neither are they numb or painful during or after the dive. Your fingers are still usable. Surprisingly, I found no loss of dexterity whatsoever compared to 5-finger gloves. Verdict: the Pinnacle gloves are nice, flexible and comfortable. Probably equivalent in warmth to a standard 5mm neoprene but more flexible. I do not intend to wear them again in temperatures below 6-8c.

| Poseidon 6mm - brilliant. Also bought during a surface interval (at stoney) when my fingers had thawed enough to use the credit card. Previous 3mm gloves just wern't good enough for 4 degrees C!!!! I wonder how many pairs of thicker gloves are sold to people with blue hands during their surface interval? Must be quite a few, I guess.
