You are generally ok ordering within the EU, I've ordered loads of stuff from Germany and Austria and to date have never been charged any import duties.

I think (and I stand to be corrected) if you pay for goods in another EU country and you pay duty/tax at their local rate you are not liable for UK duty/tax.

AFAIK (as I sell loads of stuff to the EU) there is no import duty within the EU however you pay VAT at the rate at the rate in the country in which the product will be used. So you won't pay german VAT but you pay at the UK rate (17.5%).

I too am standing ready to be corrected. And I need a haircut.

You have to difrerentiate. As a private person within EU you benefit or suffer of the VAT in the country you purchase. There is no customs, no adjustment of VAT!!

If a company buys from a different country they have to act with a VAT number, purchase ex VAT and the purchase is declared to the special finance directory in their country. Which is an internal calculation, for the company it doesn't matter whether they pay VAT or not or high VAT or little VAT, this is balanced by the end of the month with the sum of all paid and received VAT funds. The company always looks at the numbers ex VAT, the VAT is just to make the Countries happy.

HELLO, you are part of the EU, whether you like it or not. When are you getting the EUR?

We prefer a real currency Sandro

Its like our choccy... it might be poor compared to the belgians, but we stick to it religiously. Dont even think of mentioning cricket, we just invented that as a joke on the rest of the world.

I asked Sandro for a pricelist a few days ago, had a look through, did a bit of quick currency conversion and it looked ok.

Anyway I emailed Sandro for an exact price for a pressure gauge and he emailed me back with the revised price with discount and an apology because he would have to charge postage as it was a small order....

To say I was suprised is an understatement! I actually phoned him up to confirm the exact price and the postage charge. The pressure gauge was substantially cheaper (and I mean substantially cheaper!) than a similar model in the uk even with the postage.

Anyway I never placed the order because I'm going back through the price list this weekend to see if I can make up a more worthwhile order to place on Monday
