| All, Currently use a DSMBi and spool which I'm more than happy with. As a backup I want to use a standard DSMB and spool. The spool is smaller than my lumb bros reel and fits nicely in my suit pocket. Sat here at home, I'm struggling to come up with a technique to deploy the DSMB with the spool, its all getting a bit fiddly! As I've just signed up for the Adv Nitrox and Deco, and have a pool session lined up for Monday, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ian

| What are you finding difficult? Getting the kit out of your pockets, attaching the spool to the blob or just sending it up? Its a very simple piece if kit once you have practiced a few times.

| All sorted I think. Had a room full of kit being re rigged, making adjustments to kit, trying to do the washing up and hoovering before SWMBO gets home and looking at ferry times/costs etc. for Scapa, wasn't thinking straight. After speaking with Garf got a couple of things to try on Monday in the pool. Cheers!

| Practice mate, I am convinced that poor DSMB deployments lead to a disproportionate number of diving incidents. Lots of Techie divers have last been seen fafing with a DSMB. Maybe not the cause but a possible aggravating factor. Get in Mid water and practice lots of deploying while holding your stop, if you master this then all stop holding and buoyancy issues should be a doddle. Tip, If you do your buoyancy on a suit its very easy and with a shoulder auto dump you have both hands free to use.

| And if you are teaching someone to fire a blob tied off to a bit of wreck with a borrowed reel, make sure that you don't tie their reel off in a way that once it is fired, can't be untied from the wreck. Still- that's what knives are for I suppose. Ho hum. ![]()
