| I use 130lbs big game fishing dacron. It is abraison resistant and cheap. Hope that helps Michael

| I'd use #36 braided nylon line on your primary reel and #24 braided nylon on your saftey. |

| Line thickness depends on what you want it for and the conditions you are going to use it in. Thick line can be felt and managed easier with cold hands & gloves and is easier to untangle from your person. 4mm is fairly normal for UK cave, 6mm is pretty thick. It's also worth thinking about the material, will it sink or float when laid That said, when I want to take a lot of line, (not perhaps appropriate to wrecks) say > 500m I'll use 1.4mm. if you are in warm water good viz, small reel & thinner line is fine, but if it's cold, you don't need to petetrate very far and you are in poor viz then I'd think about thicker line (several mm thick) |

| Also bare in mind that you could possibly get tangled in the line. You want to be able to cut it with a knife relatively easily. Also make sure its visible. Some guys one time went cave diving using monofilament fishing line as a guide, which is invisible in the water AND hard to cut through. They died. Extreme example but hey! |

| Good point. Some lines cut well with a knife, some cut well with shears, some (monofilament) is best with a z-knife. Try cutting what you use when its wet first.

| cheers for replies, I will have a hunt and see what lines are around in the 3 to 4mm dia ( cant find a gauge chart to find out what the #24 etc are in mm), its only going to be basic wreck stuff, Just going to do the PADI wreck speciality and cant see myself wanting to explore through wrecks to the darkest inners and depths etc, not for a long time anyway. Thanks Mark |
