Depth rating of Peli cases

How deep can you safely take a Peli 1010 Micro case?

I've taken one of the clear fronted jobbies, not sure what model number, to about 20m. The face was seriously bent inwards though and leaked on successive dives.

Hey Woz, did you ever try this?

I'm trying to decide whether to risk taking my new Peli 1040 to 40m (if it survives it's being turned into a torch battery), or to play it safe and just use it as a tool box.

Applying the highly scientific method of "standing on it and jumping up and down a bit", my calculations suggest that it should survive 4.82633011 bar with only minor creaking noises.

Anyone had any real-world experience to back this figure up?

Am now using an Otter box- rated to 30m. And cheap, too.

You could always drill a small hole and fit a Shcrader (I think thats what they are called) valve, you know car tyre type then pump the box up to one bar below your intended depth.

I'd considered this early on for my rebreather handsets, having a hose between the case and the loop so that it would be at ambient. However I was told at a trade show by a rep that this was not a good idea as the depth is limited by the sealing gasket, not the case's structural strength. Some of the gaskets are a foam neoprene rather than solid and will compress and leak at depth regardless of the pressure difference between inside and outside.
