I've got one of these and it works for me. Also when my prescription changes the old lenses can be poped out and new (stronger) lenses can be put in relatively cheaply.

Prescription lenses

Folks,

Just back from my hols in Croatia and Bosnia and had the oppurtunity to take the missus snorkling. Great craic all round and she fell in love with it. I bought us two Cressi Superocchio masks etc and she was enthralled - the only thing is she said about how clear the mask was etc but wished she wore contacts so she could see more clearly etc and then I remembered she wears glasses and would really benefit from prescription lenses but I have no clue about how to go about it etc and can they be fitted to all masks, the Cressi Superocchio in particular as it seems to be a good fit for her - she is tiny.

Not a clue how to go about it at all.

Cheers

Dinger

Hi,

Most LDS can arrange prescription lenses, you'll need details of the prescription from SWMBO's optician first.

If you bought the mask locally to you, then they should be able to sort it for you.

Mrs Niknaks lenses were £70 though, so you might be in for a bill !

Also (and this this might be a dumb question) do you get distortion with the mask further away from your eyes compared to your usual specs??
Cressi do them for the big eye mask in 0.5 dioptrine steps

Hi guys,

I have been diving for 9yrs now with a specially made pair of glasses that fit inside my mask. Imagine, if you will, a normal pair of glasses with the ear bars taken off and two "U" shaped feet in their place but on the other side of the frames (facing forward). This is then placed inside the mask (has to be a single lens type) and there you go.

The obvious benefit is that I can replace my mask as often as required without the huge expense that I would normally incurr with my massive astigmatisms. As long as the new mask is able to fit the glasses then no problem. As a note I have not yet tried a single lens typemask that does not fit my "glasses".

Some people have said that I look a bit strange under water but then dont we all and I certainly do not look as strange as they would if I was not wearing them!!!

The company that makes them has a name beginning with B, I will see if I can get some more information and post it later in this thread.

Some FAQ's: No it does not irritate me inside the mask. No it does not move as it rests on my nose like ordinary specs. No I am not worried about them shattering inside the mask as glasses do not often spontaneously explode.

Regards
Midnight

PS Fair play to your mum, tell her to sign-up so I can green her. Mine had a go at a try dive a few years ago, aged 78, loved it but did not want to be bothered with all that equipment....... Maybe the side-mounts were a bit too much for the poor lass!!!!

Never had a problem in 9 yrs. Actually saw a picture of them in a diver training manual but can not for the life of me remember which one now!!

They do not cause floods (if that is what you are asking??) and I can purge the mask using a part breath as normal when I let a bit of water in to defog.

The slightly unpleasant side is that you do have to find a lot more spit than most divers to get enough eco friendly antifog to coat all surfaces!!!

Will ask MickF to show me how to post a picture once I have cleaned them up a bit! It is his SWMBO "Fizzy" who thinks they make me look "funny under water".

Regards
Midnight
