Luggage for travel??

Can anyone recommend decent luggage for dive travel. In the past i've had proper dives ones (the IQ biiig muddy funster), el cheapo matalan ones and normal wheelie cases. They've all served their purpose in the past but none have been ideal and i was wondering what everyone esle uses?

Basically it needs to be:
- Cheap (relatively) which rules out most dive bags,

- Biig,

- Able to take a good kicking and not sieze up upon first sight of salt (this is an important one, most of my dive bags have been binned 'cos of this, maybe clips/velcro instead of zips may be an idea)

-Light, the IQ one took up about 8kg of my weight allowance on its own!

I've been doing surveys on Police accom recently and some of their kit bags look like they might fit the bill but where does a civvy get 'em?

Anyway, all suggestions greatly appreciated (apart from references to bulging sacks etc... etc...)

Cheers

Ian

I had one of the ND bags but like the IQ it was about 8kg. It broke and I bought one of these.

It is a soft bag with pull out handle

Not cheap but extremely well made I also had a barrel bag and it is fab. I would recommend these to anyone.

I like stuff that doesn't say "dive kit, please steal" all over it. I have a couple of monster black cordura cargo bags from Blacks, very big, very tough and very anonymous. The big North Face expedition bags are good too, but again they tend to suggest that there is some kind of expensive kit in them.

Cheers,

Stuart

I have had all sorts, hard, soft, "Dive kit Inside" I have never had any problems with any. I bought some monster Cordura ones on wheels and I carry 4 15ltr steel tanks in one of them they cost £15 each.

For travel through airports I prefer the Hard Samsonite type. (Not with Zips) your kit is protected from the baggage guys mistreatment. It all fits in so no worries.

I have been put off the soft bags due to the chance of someone stealing from them.

It might be a worthless fear, has anyone had kit stolen from soft bags whilst in transit with airlines?

Cheers

I used the cheapo matalan hard luggage £30ish, it got all my kit to Tunisia and back ok and still looks like new, I took a light dive bag inside it to carry the gear from the hotel to the dive center. I always carry regs and computor on as hand luggage so the baggage handlers can't destroy them.

I have two quite sturdy combination locks that I've acquired by being a member at different gyms. I use one on the main zip as there are two of the bits that you pull (sorry don't know the technical term, but that sounds funny - you know what I mean) and then I use the second one to zip together the two zips on the two pockets on the front of my dive bag. Guess you'd really want to have to use some force (or tools) to get into it.

One of my friends had stuff stolen from the side pocket of her rucksack in either Venezuala or Trinidad. The only thing that was in the pocket, and that was nicked was her Dr Collis Brown mixture!!! Always makes us laugh remembering that!!

Same as John Hulme, my regs and comp go as hand luggage...better safe than sorry....

Talking Armour for bags :D

My sis used one of these products when she went to OZ... When she wanst around her baggage she padlocked the whole thing to an immovable object.....Also it's kind of difficult to nick stuff out of your bag in transit!

Cheers
