| hi, basicaly it is an old cannoe/kayak helmet, approach outdoor centres particularly charity ones and offer some csh for defunct kit, only tell them it is for a project, this is perfect for UK sump conditions but if you are after somthing to cave in and not dive in don't even think about one of those, get yourself one from www.inglesport.co.uk or alternitivley www.berniescafe.co.uk and get them to put a traditional lamp bracket on the front. hope this helps. P.S if your quick people may not notice tht you havent posted an introduction. hint, hint

Failing that use a caving helmet like the Petzl Ecrin - it depends on if you intend using the helmet for caving/climbing out of the water or just want it for head protection/light mounting. I've used an Ace canoe helmet like the one in your photo for both wet and dry cavig for the last 20 years. Although not for caving they were designed to take 40 mph side impacts.

| I got a Kayak helmet from ebay for 5.00, they are one size fits all, you adjust by changing the size of the pads which are supplied. 5mm drill, half meter of bungy and 2 SL4s gets you Martyn Farr style headgear which fits nice and comfy over your hood. I have used it for non cave diving, diving but the ridicule and contempt of so called mates proves there is a time and a place for everything. Last edited by Brian Jarvis : 30-09-05 at 12:52 PM. |

| I use a Petzl ecrin climbing helmet. I found the old canoe helmet uncomfortable during those long trips, and carrying two helmets a pain. The climbing helmet has some holes already for ventilation which make an ideal way of attaching extra lights. Only modification was to add a bracket at the front for lamp and a few holes for a retainer strap at the rear. The disadvantage of this, the helmet sits high up on the head when I have my hood on. ![]()
