if you get one dont be tempted to blow up your airbed/lilo with it, a mate of mine did so one night in bray harbour and shivered all night

Ive got one but must admit ive never used it to fill an smb or lift bag. Its on my kit purely to inflate my double air matress for the tent i use for camping on every diving weekend. Beats blowing it up manually or finding a footpump !

AND i bet im the only person in the field with an EAN36 matress......

Id suspect the one ive got (beaver) is too slow for filling a bag anyway given the rate of airflow through it.

yes, i use the gun with certain kit configurations

very easy to use,
lots of air passed into the bag,
less chance of entrapment than sticking a 2nd stage in the opening,
cheaper than having bags with drysuit inflator feeds (although nothing wrong with these),

downside - you either
- need an extra hose from the 1st stage that you permanently keep the inflator on or
- you have to disconnect a hose (dry suit?) and connet that to the gun (in which case where do you keep the gun during the dive etc etc)

I would think the slow rate is to stop the first stage from freezing-up when you're using it.

I think it'll be a lot easier than chuffing air out of the second stage into the bag.

I've got it on the left post at the moment, and clip off on the left hand hip d-ring when not in use. If it freezes the left hand first stage, then it can be disconnected.

I am using a dog dick at the moment but I will get an air gun for next year. Both are a damed site safer than sticking a reg up the kneck of a lift bag.

If i were using it pureley for SMB work Id get one of those Halcyon sealed units you inflate from the dry suit hose. No gun required.

Hmmm, wouldn't like the idea of disconnecting my drysuit hose to inflate the DSMB, then find I can't get it back on again, with 30mins deco to do, and water temp at 4Deg C :brrrrrrr:

Also, another though, would you really put all that argon into the bag

I have used the bendy black inflator gun and frankly they are utter pants. Difficult to work if you don't bend it in the right direction. Then changed to a push-button gun and they are 1000% better. I had mine permanently on a hose routed down the BCD inflator hose so it stuck out of the end near the BCD mouthpiece thingy.

Now I don't use either and inflate a DSMB using reg exhaust bubbles. Much more controllable, you only put 1 breath in at a time and it's waste gas anyway. With my ADP blob I need 2 breaths at 20m to have it all stiff and erect at the surface (not now Finless). And 2 breaths hardly affects your buoyancy at all.

Well actually these are even better for bagging off:
