Pricton Tec Shockwave Rechargeable Please Help?

Hi me again!

I seem to be having a bad run with torches this year. The other night while trying to undo my lucky Princton Tec Shockwave rechargeable I managed to snap the handle. I managed to stay calm and not throw the thing at the wall in the hope that as its guaranteed (cough cough) I might be able to get a replacement body for it. Problem is I cant seem to find online the main UK dealer. Its not really possible to take it back to the place it was purchased from for them to send back so fingers crossed I can get it sent back direct. Does any one know the details of the UK main supplier please?

Also if any one out there has a flooded unit that they can no longer use or want I may be interested in the body part if its cheap enough?

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

I'm on my 3rd all flooded and replaced FOC I got mine from Go Dive but AFAIA it is Hydrotech/Stoney cove that are the importers and sort out the replacements so I'd try them.

Good luck mate

Safe diving,
Steve

:EDIT: forgot to say PT have a lifetime warranty on their torches

Thank you Steve. Im going to be going there on the 13th hopefully so may arrange to send and hopefully pick up a new body for it then. Not had one flooded yet though.

Out of interest how do you normally get them undone as I find them very tight. Thats how i managed to break the handle.

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

hold it underneath the lens cap and trap/support the handle and body with your forearm and stomach and twist the cap with other hand.

HTH

Safe diving,
Steve

Hi guys wonder if i can have some more help please.

I have taken the torch back to the shop it was purchased from. They have told me the suppliers has said they no longer make the torch so im stuffed. I purchased this torch as it has a lifetime garantee. Am i stuffed or is there something I can do?

Also they said that Princton tec are saying the garantee is now only 3 years although the web says lifetime?

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

tell them that they have an obligation to either replace it fully, refund your money or provide you with their closest model FOC if it is out of production, if they still stick to their guns tell them you will seek redress in the small claims court even if it means you take a loss.

It seems to me that they are trying it on AFAIC if a product says lifetime warranty and then they find it has a tendancy to explode the customer shouldn't have to pay for that, on Mark's link here they list all the spares you can buy for them [as well as the torch itself ]and it mentions the lifetime warranty http://www.godive.net/gdtorch.htm take it back to the shop concerned and tell them to stop giving you the run around.

Good luck.

Safe diving,
Steve

Hi Steve thanks for the reply.

I told the shop I was not happy and they said thats the best they can do. I think would have more luck if I took it back to Stony Cove. I have emailed a guy there before and the reason I didnt take it to them was the fact I didnt have the receipt any more but now have it.

How does one go about going to a small claims court and who would I be making a claim against the dive shop or the torch company?

Probably wont be able to post back till lunch time but will pot back when I can

Thanks

Jamie

Hi Jamie,

the citizens advice bods would be my first port of call if going via the small claims court, TBH I don't know why the shop is refusing to do anything about it won't cost them to replace it.

Get a reciept or covering letter from them stating when you bought it then send it and the torch to Stoney cove, it might also be an idea to remind them that PT are still touting a lifetime warranty thus are failing under the trade descriptions act if they don't honour it.

Safe diving,
Steve.

P.S. I for one would like to know who the shop is [obviously not trying to use YD as some kind of threat re: the name in vain thread ]

Not very bright

Save messing about -

http://www.princetontec.com/contact/

E-mail Princeton and tell them of your woes, they will probably dispatch you a new one FOC and give the importers a roasting for upsetting a customer.

The torch might be american but it sounds like you're not getting american customer service!

Hope this helps.

as far as the small claims court (actually a special proces in the county court) is concerned, you would have to take action against the shop you bought it from. You have a contractual relationship with them. You don't with the manufacturer. Although it's possible that the warranty could imply some sort of relationship I suppose. In practical terms you're likel;y to be better approaching the UK importers I imagine.

And as for preventing the jamming up, always always slacken off the head at the end of a day's diving (and turn the battery round so it can't switch on. This will also remind you to tightem everything up after turning the battery round again next time you dive...)
