Scubapro Jetfins are amazing!!!

I bought a pair of Scubapro Jetfins from Aquanauts after much thought about going for a pair of ND Jetfins. Had a quick chat with Brian(of Aquanauts!!!) who was recovering from his Birthday antics the night before and he sorted me out with a pair of fins, great service, thanks Brian.

Anyway tried them on Friday at New England Quarry in Plymouth and they were absoloutely brilliant. No floaty feet, improved trim (in my eyes anyway), and generally propulsion on demand.

I haven't tried a pair of ND Jetfins, but personally i'd reccommend Scubapro Jetfins very highly.

Oh god I can feel the darkside pulling me.

Dan,

Whereabouts is New England Quarry? I know Plymouth very well (kids live there) and spend one weekend out of every four there, so would be very interested about this site. Could you pass on some info and maybe a web address if one exists?

Cheers,

Ian

Ian,

This quarry is privately owned and not a commercial facility. The only permitted users are Plymouth University have been trying to get use of it for years but to no avail. It's all locked up the rest of the time and you can't get a car anywhere near close and theres a big fence to climb over... so not even worth trespassing.

Brian

You have to come a bit east of Plym along the A38 to get to NEQ. It is not a formally open dive site however. It's main purpose is that of Police dog training. The Uni and some other groups have (had when I was at uni there, left in 2003) purmission to use it when dog training isn't going on.

It is fairly small and from memory is about 13m deep if you dig hard enough.

Other than the uni I don't know who else has access, I know that when I was with the Uni club rather than their dive centre we had to request access.

Attached a couple of pics of the quarry, courtesy of Plymouth Univeristy Diving and Sailing Centre.

The University has now added it's own pontoon, and portacabins for changing etc. I believe the quarry shut down in 1994, Viz is pretty good 3/4 Metres +, water temp on friday was 15 degrees c, I'v seen it around 3 degrees c in January though. There is also a Helicopter which was suposedly used for a film then put into the quarry and the shell of a transit van.

Tempted Brian but I think i'm going to wait until i'v finished my HSE Part 4, then possibly qualify up to Divemaster, then do my Fundies - it is very tempting though.
