Other Dive Equipment: Discuss Compact Back-up Mask in the Dive Kit and Equipment forums: I would be grateful for recommendations for a back-up mask - must be low profile/compact. Thanks, Kristen...

Get a good one and test it regularly. When the day comes that you need a back up mask it must work and work well. I use a full size mask as back up and have neaded it twice so far.

My 'primary' and 'backup' masks are the same (poseidon technica, but fit and comfort are the big issues..?) and share duty so are regularly tested.

Make sure when kitting up to defog your backup before stowing it in your pocket/pouch etc...

Just my old mask - Tusa Platina with a neoprene strap. Easy to grab out of my pocket and put on with gloves on. Plus it won't sink if I fumble and drop it (well, not too fast!)

Buying from scratch I would get and Oceanic Shadow/Ice and bung a slap strap on it.

Another vote for these - they are cheap, low volume so stow nicely, and if you don't like black they do a clear one. They seem to fit everybody.

I buy them from a guy on ebay. (smashed another one this weekend ) but as they are cheap it's not that big a deal.

Woz sells them too

Same here, used as backup. Frameless so takes up less room and a nice soft silicon for us delicate top lipped sort.

Got mine from ebay for just shy of £10, but had to pay excess postage of £2.30. Still a bargain though.
