Question What tape or just Aquasure?

The drysuit suit is an Oceanic Flex 2000 trilaminate.

I have tracked down a very small leak along the seam of my inside left leg. It is a pinhole size about 14 inches up from the floor. Have performed the "bath test" we could not see bubbles escaping but detected the damp patch on my jeans on exit.

Option 1
Should I smear Aquasure along the seam inside and out to attempt a seal?

Option 2
Glue some tape along the in side of the seal?

Option 3
Glue some tape along the outside of the seal?

If tape is suggested, what should I use and where do I get some from. Can I use Aquasure to bond the tape and suit? Or what bonding agent should I use?

The suit was purchased in 2002 has done about 200 dives and I am very pleased with it. Time is of the essence as i meant to be diving on Friday.

I had a small pin hole in my membrane suit once. I put a bike patch over it and smeared it with aquasure.

Touch wood its been ok since.

I did a 'temporary' repair with a bike patch on a neck seal. Ian isnt the suit covered by the lifetime warranty? Maybe effect a temp repair then get dealer to get it sorted properly, check if a temp repair is OK as you dont want to invalidate the warranty if it has one. As you know I have the same suit, but as mine has never been near a dealer [1] since I bought it I'm assuming the warranty is kaput anyway.

Rgds
Matt

[1]Apart from getting neck seal fixed which was obviously not a a warranty claim.

Hi Ian,

I had a flex and TBH once it started going on the seams it was a never ending job, the tape [single] when damp allows the water in but when it dries it looks fine I ended up doing both arms with aquasure and taping the legs AFAIA there is no lifetime warranty on 'em [wasn't in 2000] but the tape is definitely a neater job.

I just use mine for pool training now and got an otter.

Safe diving,
Steve

Steve you're right I just looked on the Oceanic website and its just life-support stuff, which includes BCD but not dry-suit. Funny could have sworn my dealer mentioned lifetime warranty when I bought mine. Mind you I knew they were never going to see it again so may have mis-heard.

Speak to a d/suit repairer like DW/Otter. If you like the suit you don't want to risk a decent repair later by using the wrong stuff now - as seem to recall that some glues can "ruin" the fabric for other glues and hence shouldn't be used.

DONT USE AQUASURE!
Once you start using aquasure you are pretty much knackered if you then want to do a proper repair, as nothing sticks to it properly. Rubber tape over the inside seam is your best bet, but watch out for the existing tape lifing when it gets glue on it! best glue to use is Bostik 2402. Taping the outside will not achieve anything!
cheers

You might want to give Oceanic a call.

A long shot, but Hammond have done some very fast repairs for me in the past. You can sometimes call on them in the evening (although from some of your other posts it seems you may be able to get to them in the day at the moment :-) ) and their service and quality are excellent.

They are near Dartford, just down the road from Kent diving. Give them a call, I think it was Chris i spoke to last time.
