Oooooo have just had a great idea....

Diver's GPS.
Switch it on when you jump in. Descend. GPS loses signal but knows where you jumped in. Blob reel line has an antenna cord laid into it. You fire your blob, the GPS picks up the signal and tells the diver which way to go to their entry point / wherever they want to end up. Of course if the blob isn't directly above you then this idea is total pants.

Didn't Uwatec make something like this for dive schools, I think that it was one-way and no comms, but all for the students had a transponder and the instructor had some sort of hand-held device.
There was no DF apart from him pointing it around 'looking' for them.
