Having just scanned through this thread by chance (and a few others this evening), I have reached a couple or three conclusions:

1. Alan has watched too much Withnail

2. Duncan is sick (hands up if you didn't know this already)

3. If someone came up with an idea that worked underground, the CRO and a few underwater potholers would be very, very happy.

There are a number of devices used by skiers in case they are caught in an avalanche. The names "Recco" and "Ortovox" spring to mind. If someone was serious perhaps these people might be willing to look at it.

Unfortunately the Recco device works by transmitting a radio pulse and the object in the clothes responding, direction is deduced by moving the transmitter/receiver until the strongest signal is received. As has already been said, normal mmW radio signals do not travel very far underwater, and even less through caves!

Ortovox I think is just a radio transmitter, with DF being achieved by moving the receiver to get the strongest signal.

Son, you're going to have to make up your mind about growing up and becoming aircrew. You can't do both.

The aircraft limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular aircraft. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no limits.

I had a good lead on this from soneone who contacted me, a YDr. Just waiting for them to get back to me about there Dive Locater (If someone has a good idea, but wants to hold of on a patent then just post a description).

A chap pm'd me about something they have built which solves all the issues we discussed, allows for monitoring divers, and can be reversed so diver can find the boat. Has a water proof screen, sonar tail just thrown over the side. Might need some modifications for market but it sounds good anyway. Sounds doable at least.
