Darth Vader FFM 'wannabee'?

I am interested in:-

a) How many FFM users there are on the forum.
b) Exchanging views/opinions/tips etc - do you hace 2 regs plumbed in, do you use a gas switch.

FWIW, one of the reasons for using a FFM, not mentioned by me previously, is facial protection e.g. from jellyfish stings.

There is a limited amount to discuss but I am interested if any technical diver use FFMs.

Get posting fellow and fellowess FFMers!

Heeellloooo!

Divator II, Pos pressure.
Gas switch block.
For communications.
Protection from Weils.
Used with open circuit gases.

Now I excusively use CCR and the risk outweighs the requirement for comms.

That's very thoughtfull Brian, protecing us from your face, it's a shame you don't wear it on the boat on the way out and back from the dive site.

It would look really cool with the tea cosy.

Use to have a Divator +ve pressure/switch block set up.
Got an Ocean Reef in the shed at the moment - and a Cressi Sub which I may fix to the Dolphin at some point!

Currently using AGA Positive pressure and neutral pressure FFM's for my HSE Scuba course - with a bailout block with Pony attached.

Also hoping to have a go at the EXO 26 as I hear these are brilliant masks.

I find the field of view fantastic and they seem to have a nice breath. Have used with hard-wire comms but not with through water comms yet.

I'm not that well up on CCRs but I would have thought the protection afforded by a FFM against spitting out the reg if suffering hyperoxia would be worth some consideration.

I know that FFMs are available for CCRs but they are really two ½ masks so the reg can be removed and replaced without flooding the top ½ of the mask. I suppose that is good enough evidence that there are other major considerations with a FFM apart from hyperoxia?

Has anyone used a 3 (or more) into one gas switch with a FFM.

Has anyone used the APD quick connect hoses (for gas switching during a dive) with an FFM?

I'm not sure ........ it looks like that gas is available to all ports when the valve is opened?

For my purposes I would need to have (if I get into trimix diving) three different gasses coming into the manifold but only one being breathed at any one time (travel, bottom or deco gas).

Of course there are down sides to using a FFM but ........

If I stay with a two way switch I would have the travel and bottom gasses plumbed into the switch. If the APD quick release hoses are designed to connected/disconnected during a dive then during the ascent whilst happily breathing the travel gas I would take off the bottom gas hose and connect up the deco gas. This way I should never be without a gas to breath + I have the benefit of using the same reg at all stages of the dive rather than switching to a reg that I don't know will work.
