Hehe, amazing how much kit the Navy / Marines / whoever use! Just about every drysuit, BC, reg, whatever else i've ever seen comes with a notice somewhere saying "as used by the Navy Divers"! Wouldn't take that as meaning very much now

I have used Scubapro Jetfins for over 6 seasons now - thay are great. Borrowed a pair of Mares Planar Advantage on a dive last year. Can only liken it to having two wooden planks strapped to my feet - horrid, gave me cramp, need I say more.
If my trusty Grey split fins wear out I will be replacing them with an identical pair. However, they have done 500ish dives and are good for many more- have had to replace the straps a couple of times mind you, but that is fair wear and tear.

I'm not a DIR diver but according to what I've seen and heard the weight and the size (they're shorter than most of the fins I've had) of them seems to be the main reason.

Nothing wrong with the quatros except I've lost faith in the ABS clip. Twice I've found the fin float off my foot because the locking mechanism has failed. Countless times I've kitted up and struggled to activate the locking mechanism because it's jammed and more times than I care to remember I have resurfaced and the mechanism is on its way to opening! Might be me, might be a duff mechanism or might be a common fault...All I know is that I no longer trust them!

Fit the Quattros with spring straps and never look back. Unless you are looking back to see how great they look on your heel. They are a good fin with a crap over fancy clip on them- no doubt someone will be along telling me that their clips have done 2.4x10^9 dives and never failed but I've seen that many bits of broken fin plastic at various dive sites I'd beg to differ.

There are a few on the market- the V4Tec ones are good, as are, er, some others from, er, somewhere else. Er. Beaver ones are cheap and if you pull hard, fire bits of plastic in a comedy fashion across the car park. I think Halcyon do some too or if you are a real cheapskate, you can make some from bungee, hosepipe and tiewraps for less than the price of a pint of Stella.

A very unscientific test - on Saturday I tried ND jetfins on the first dive and Scubapro on the second. It was the first time I had used any type of jetfin.

I have to confess that I couldn't really tell between them in the water. They were both fine. I wouldn't rave about. but i wouldn't rant either. I will keep on going for a few more dives witht eh ND jetfins and see how they go. if I don't think much more of them than i did on the first dive i will switch back to my Quattros.

I frogkick all the time (lazy ) so kick style isn't the issue. I expected some epiphany the way I have heard them talked about - maybe they are oversold

Anyway, the advantage is that they are shorter and I hope that makes ladders just a tiny bit easier when you reach the top and have to do the triple joint dislocation to fit Quattros throught he gap

Best thing I did with my Quattros was to get shot of those usless clips and put on a pair a spring straps. I can put the fins on and off with ease and can now trust them to stay on during the dive.
