Can any Rocommend a good knife

Hi All,

I'm looking to buy a new, small, compact knife. At the moment I currently dive with a pair of trauma shears in my left thigh pocket and the largest knife in the world (unless you are Crocodile Dundee) strapped to my right leg.

However, the large knife is no good for cutting line, has only ever being used to pry things open (on the surface) and is probably an excellent way to tangle me up in loose discarded line on a wreck. The only reason I bought it was that when I was 14 I though it looked 'hard' to have the biggest knife on the boat.

So, I would like to have a small but efficient bladge for cutting cord / rope that is two much for the trauma shears. I intend to attch it to the waist band of my wing so that I can access it with both hands at all times.

Any suggestions? So far I'm looking at probably something liek a T-Rex.

Cheers!

I bought a small Titanium Noprthern Divers knife for jus under £30 from Deep Blue Scuba in Tynemouth. I've attached it to the shoulder strap opf my harness, works well. See link below

I have a 'REMORA' by Underwater Kinetics it is a small black knife with a yellow inlay in the handle that is located on one of my hand sets of my Re-Breather, it also has a very sharp serated edge,

I also have use a TUSA knife, this is a small gray knife that has a serated part on the top and a sharp curvered edge, both knives has a positive lock the last one you have to pull a catch down to lock it

I recall seeing a knife/scissor combo, looked good to me as a back-up to your shears. Barracuda (by Beaver)
But I cant see how an ordinary knife would cut something trauma shears wouldnt.

Digger convinced one of our newbies that a Kitchen Devil, a length of hosepipe and 2 bits of string would make an ideal dive knife. And sure enough, on the summer trip, the newbie wandered out with a bit of hose on his leg.

He also convinced him that Fish Sauce (nam pla) should be used to attract the wildlife.

Personally I would go for small, cheap and shite. You will lose it at least once a year. Beaver Eclipse meets all of the above and rusts pleasingly into its sheath too.

Big 'up' for the Remora from me too. Although mine has a black inlay

It's attached to the waist belt of my harness in a DIR stylee.

My mate Tricky will be along soon to wax lyrical about his DIRZone knife, but pay him no heed: it's all rusty and looks like a grapefruit knife. Whereas mine shines like something Woz himself would be proud to sell.

Oh yeah, I've still got my original BSAC-style (i.e. capable of finishing off a Nile Crocodile) Wenoka knife that I bought back in 1987 when I started diving.

I occasionally strap it to my calf in the manner of a James Bond villain.

Curiously it's 'signed' by some guy called Blackie Collins, whoever the feck he is/was.

I like the beaver eclipse too - top features are the line cutting notch and serrated edge. I've filed the point off mine, and it goes in a webbing sheath on my belt instead of the crap fragile plastic sheath it comes with. (you can find them with webbing sheaths under other brand names).

Save yourself the money and get down your local supermarket and get a small kitchen knife, also known as the kitchen devil. I got mine for about £2 and it will cut line no problem. When its no good chuck it away and buy a new one, jobs a good un.
