V weight characteristics

All

Diving with MATTBIN over the weekend, his recent post and my thoughts on kit configuration, I'm seriously considering change to a V weight.

My question is, if I change to a V weight, how would this change my CoG?

I find to be honest that I'm head heavy/light footed, this is probably due to the fabers but they're not particularly high up on my back. I wear ankle weights to try to help but also use Mares Volo fins so they probably cancel each other out. I'm VERY aware how much air I put in my suit as I had an inverted ascent very early on in my diving, so air migration isn't normally a concern.

I was thinking that the V weight would be higher on the back than the normally waist located belt/harness/integrated weights.

Anybody changed recently onto a V weight notice anything?

TIA
Gary

Only good stuff!

I really notice that my trim (probably not fabulous at the best of times) goes out the window with a weight belt.

With a wing,BP and v-wight, everything is acting at or near the same point.

You'd be thinking correctly.

Gary,
before you rush out and buy one I have a spare 2kg lying around.
And its Black.
On your original question I noticed no problems in triom but since you will be taking weight off the belt then you can play around to some extent.

Regards
Richard

Started using v weights about a year ago and noticed a big difference. A good one to boot!
I don't feel as though I'm constantly fighting to keep the lower half of my body up.

In my defence I wasn't thinking of buying one (honest Matt!). I've got about 2kg of loose lead shot lying around and having searched the archives, it sounds fairly simple to make one. That said, if it was black and available to borrow, then that would make all the difference.

I'll send you a PM Richard

Cheers

I was a big fan of them until I did the DIR thing.

Combine a V weight with a set of fabers and try to get flat trim and you will nose dive into the ground without a tailweight. At least, IMHO.

Interesting, I've never felt that and have only used v-weights.
I only saw the tailweight as a way of getting more lead behind you.

There was a while when P(olish)-Weights were the big thing, they filled the v-between the backplate and the diver.
