Unhappy I think I may have a problem with my autoblob

Hi all,

I think I may have a problem with my autoblob (Buddy DSMBi) When I launch it from depth its all limp and only half full at the surface. Its done this a couple of times now and the small bottle is always filled from a full cylinder. (its the 0.1 litre bottle if that helps)

What's the easiest way to check for a leak?

Cheers all,

Noel.

inflate it fully by using the crack bottle & stick it in the bath, see where the bubbles are escaping from and then either patch it or aquasure it (after drying) depending on the problem

reminds me I've got a problem with mine but will post another thread

Makes perfect sense Gary, apart from the fact that I don't have a bath! I suppose it'll give the fish something to look at in the pond though!

Jules, Thanks. What kind of patch?

i just put a blob of aquasure on mine, that was 2 yrs ago and it is still OK. I have also fixed a hole in the counterlung of my homebuild the same way. This stuff is the best and every dive box should carry a tube.

Certainly sound like there is a problem with it, I have one with the lower size bottle (0.1L) and it breaks the surface like a rocket. As mentioned, it's bath check time but I would replace the bag if damaged

If You Cant Get It Up!!

In the bath - (ooeer missus - alright all you Frankie Howards get back in line) then use some sort of spray bottle filled with soapy water and spray the body and bottle seat of your DSMB - this will certainly indicate the leak. We used to use these to leak check seals/glands on £500k saturation diving systems - its that good.

on mine, the plastic seat the bottle screws into wasn't seated correctly on the blob material as was leaking a bit of air. dissasembled it, cleaned the seal face and bunged it back together. no leaks. I think I may have loosened it fiddleling about with the cylinder a few weeks previously.

Any fix would have to be very good. You don't want to get the big red fellow rising to the occassion only to go all limp again a few seconds later
