Best way to transport my gear internationally?

Well I'm slowly getting things ready for my IDC course in Thailand this summer, and am starting to wonder how to get my gear there. Is it worth getting a dive kit bag to hold all my gear or should I just go for a reasonably sturdy generic case? I want it to be pretty light itself as I've my equipment plus a load of reading material to go in there too.

Any recommendations on what I should do here would be greatly appreciated

I used a Gear Gulper. I found it fit two lots of dive gear in, weighed less than an equivelant sized case and cannot be crushed.

How would I lock this for going on a plane? And it might not be the easiest thing to carry on my own either.

I had the same thing last january. I packed my PC, wetsuit, fins and mask etc in a regular sportbag (soft). Fins and wetsuit protecting PC, and PC protecting the mask. Regulators and instruments in handbaggage. No problems.
I also had also my PD170 with housing and Laptop in my handbaggages, but thats an other story.
Have a good IDC!
PS You should be concerned how to bring home the IDC material and all the extra stuff you'll buy from Thailand (find a nondiving travelmate to carry your belongings).

I've got almost all of the IDC material here with me now as I can get it with a US military discount, having friends there

Sorry for being thick, but by PC am I right in thinking you mean computer?! And I've got 30kgs weight limit for my internal flight in Thailand and now just have to sweet-talk China Airlines into doing the same for me.

Beaver Chieftain Rucsac. It's very light, strong, comes with all sorts of handles (and rucsac straps) and is the Spanish Grandmother of bags- it appears to have no known capacity limit. I can get all of my gear in one (even a single cylinder if I really tried).

And cheap.

That looks pretty nice, but isn't there the potential of things getting crushed or really banged around by baggage handlers?

I got the Beaver Imperial.
Slightly bigger and more expensive than Woz's.
