Question Kent reel. Plastic bead / stainless nut on reel line

Good morning all,

I have just got myself a nice Kent tooling reel and have one maybe two questions - I'll use it for the first time on Saturday, so be prepared for more.

I want to put a loop on the line so I can put it over the locking nut and lock it all down in order to prevent it all from unravelling prior to use. I've seen some people with these types of reel have a plastic bead or a nut in this loop to prevent it from pulling through the "gate" - Is this necessary? If so I'd prefer to use a plastic bead as I can foresee the treads on a M8 stainless nut wearing on the line. And where can you get these plastic items?

Cheers all,

Noel

I use a plastic bead on my reels as it helps open the line loop to pass the reel through after wrapping the line around a fixing point.

Sorry Noel, can't help about the bead part, what reel do you have and do you have an SMB bracket? I tried the loop over the locking nut but found it a bit of a pain as you had to slack off the line to get the loop over the nut, retighten, attach smb etc..

I now have my reel line attached to my DSMBi which in turn sits in the bracket. This allows me to take the smb off the bracket and unfurl without unlocking the nut and minimising any chance of a birds nest occuring. Once I'm ready to deploy, loosen the nut a touch, let out a foot or so of line and crack the bottle.

Cheers,

Ian

People use nuts because they cant find a suitable plastic bead

I use a small suicide clip on my reel which does the same job and makes clipping back on to its self or on to the emergancy SMB, a dodle.

You can pick up suitable sized beads at most chandlers. They come in bright colours too if that's your want.

Noel
