That's interesting, the LDS told me that they needed special ingot weights.

As I mentioned in another post, the beauty of the harness is that you rarely have to remove the weight pockets. I have an integrated BC, but I only add/remove wts to the trim pockets as required for minor buoyancy adjustments - different cylinder, thicker undersuit etc; relying instead on the harness to carry the lions share of the lead.

I'm convinced that continually removing and replacing the integrated pockets in a BC puts wear and tear on the retaining mechanism - sooner or later resulting in the thing letting go just when you don't want it too.

I'll admit that the Wt integrated BC is marginally more comfortable in the water than the harness though. But both are much better than a conventional wt belt.

For Northern diver, you also get 2 leg pockets with it.
Mine is on its 4th year and apart from a some scuffing its great.

I rip out the weights on my DUI harness at the end of nearly every dive, to hand them up on the club rib. Nice and easy, no problems whatsoever.
You don't need special weights for it.
I'm very happy with it.
I tried the scubapro one, which I didn't like at all. The ND one came in for some stick on here a while back.

Weight Harness

I used my new Bowstone last weekend, I've just moved away from my BC Integrated (too much for the wife to lift, BC, Tank, Pony, Weight etc).

What I found is that I had to wear it a bit below my bc, felt a bit odd to start with, weight not where you expect it. A bit of a pain was using a 3kg shot bag in each pocket, it's too bulky, probably need to use 3x1kg bags (the pockets are cavernous!) or go back to lead.

The other "problem" came when getting back in the rib and handing up weight, the pockets are quite tough to get out, they aren't going to fall out at depth! Hopefully this will become easier with a bit more practice.

Is that Alex of St Albans fame?? How are things going well under your own steam without your mentor If you ever fancy a trip down under we'll be happy to sort you out with a dive and beer combo (obviously not together because that would be BAD!!).

All the best

Try a roll of roofers lead (£13ish for 11k), cut into half kilo strips and bound together with velcro straps (B&Q). Much less bulky than conventional lead and shot, and you can mould it to your hips. I have 5k in each pouch of my Bowstone harness using this set-up and there is bags of room left for more.

I have just changed to a CD TCW wing and with my old TekWing found the ND harness quite a paid due to it's position - I like the look of the pockets - do you have any pics of one in position?

Hi Martin,

I think I might have a picture at home, I was using the ND harness with a CD Sportwing and it was a royal pita. Will dig it out if I have one.

Hold up, check here: Not too clear. I may have another one somewhere.

That sounds like a great idea (shame I have loads of shot bags at home).

I might get some and see about making up some smaller trim-weights.
