Smile Compressor choice??

Hi Guys

I was thinking of getting a small portable compressor for home use, as I am fed up spending an hour travelling for fills, and on occasions, finding the shop shut.

Does anyone have any practical advice on what I should be looking for, who or where is a good place to get one, and lastly, what sort of money should I be looking as for a tidy second hand one? New is out, I know it will be too much for the times I use it.

My own thoughts were of a 3 to 5 cft petrol or single phase electric one?

Any comments welcome, I'm sure a few people may have thought of this at some time.

Thanks

James

Hi James

there are a few coltrisub compressors on the market at the moment ...but these (at least for the smaller units) tend to be heavy on repair and maintainance ...if I were you I would contact some of the larger compressor supplies places (I use central compressor components) and ask for a small hamworthy cmpressor .....about the 3 - 5 cfm range (the model 4s7 would be ideal)...these can be driven by a single phase motor and are excelent reliable units, you should be able to get one for about the £900 mark
aside from that I would suggest getting a bauer junior which are again reliable units ...but this would cost much more.

cheers

Hazel

Blimey, that's a drastic solution. Can't find a fill within an hour of Wigan? I can think of at least a dozen places. Last time I checked you had motorised transport, unless you've gone completely native and adopted the wippet as your beast of burden.

Hi Big Boy

I know it sound extream, I'm just a bit miffed as I went to Marks place in Ashton three times over the last couple of weeks and had to go elsewhere every time. I went to Mikes in Warrington only to be told the guy who does nitrox was not there so could I go back another day - no! If I get one at the right price I rekon I could sell it again in a few years with not much loss?, but I have to do a bit a background to see if it is feasable, which is why I have turned to the good people on YD.

Also thanks to Divebiatch, we have never met but I am sure you are easier on the eyes than the Pieater

There is a truly grusome tale of health problems recently inflicted on Mark that would make you alternately burst out laughing and have you reaching for the sick bag. He's on the mend now. Nip in and ask him where he's been. I can't say, as some might be eating.

Don't take it the wrong way, I get on fine with Mark and have known him for many years, I spoke to him last week and know the story, he has had a rough time and I would not have coped as well as he has. I'm not miffed at Mark, just at not getting my cylinders filled and having to go to other places.

Ditto Hamworthy - and Bauer are good too.

I'm still looking at this so keep the info coming if you have it, if there is anyone else with personal experiance (or fancy selling one at a reasonable price) let me know, I'd also like to hear from anyone who have had any dealings with Paramina?
