Can't you turn them inside - out ( wrist seal ones I'm refering to )?

Only partially, the outer material is very stiff and the inners are attached to it. I keep meaning to remove the inner and replace with fleece hiking gloves.

These are the gloves I use: Diver tests February 2001 - DIVERNET from Diver Magazine

Incidently, I've set them up without a suit inner seal. Some might say it's risky, but it's a lot easier donning my drysuit and virtually impossible to rip a cuff seal.

On these ring systems, how does the suit air feed into, and out of, the glove?

Two ways:

1. There's a bloody great hole where your cuff seal used to be - this is how I've set mine up and what I was trying to describe in my last post.

2. You have your cuff seal on the inside of the suit ring and faff around with bits of straw to allow communication of gas between the suit and glove.

Yeah, the 'chew and glue' ones are obvious in the way they work, and obvious in the complexity of fitting, having to 'chew' the cuff seal off, and 'glue' the ring system on.

Now these, I don't see an advantage over the wrist seal type of glove, except that you have to part with ££££s more for them

I have the SI-Tech cuff-ring system on my drygloves - my comments:
  • I have the ring permanently glued in my suit, giving me the advantage of being able to replace the latex wrist seals in seconds if I tear one.
  • When I wear the gloves I either stuff a short piece of string in the wrist seal to break the seal and allow air to equalise into them, or I use the thumb-loop of my Zerotherm arctics (if I forget some string) and leave this protruding the wrist seal, before donning the gloves. I lost the little tubes they came with very quickly!
  • I retain the normal cuff seal in place (apart from the string) so that if I tear the glove I can just whip it off, yank out the string and then stop the suit flooding - I can't do this if I use the thumbloop however.
  • The gloves I have, have seperate liner gloves which makes drying/airing them a breeze, you could also replaced these with polartech ones if so desired.
  • I don't use the gloves for wreck diving, as wrecks are in the sea, and the sea around me never gets cold enough for me to need more than 5mm semi-dry gloves. I only use them for cold, fresh water diving, but would use them if I ever found myself doing any sea diving in sub 5 degree water.
  • I don't find the loss of dexterity a problem at all, in fact I reckon cold hands loses more dexterity than wearing these dry gloves.
  • I chose the ring-system over the ones with an integrated seal, as I wanted the ability to replace cuff seals in the field, they come with seperate liners, and also they are dead easy to don/doff compared to the ones with a seal on.
Hope theres some useful food for thought there...

With the gloves that I use, there's no chewing or glueing. However, that's not to say that they aren't complex to fit!

As for the advantages of the rings + inner seals over just plain seals. Maybe just a more water tight fit, don't really know though as I don't use my gloves like this.

Rings, BIG advantage is ease of donning.

Slide on, twist and lock, job done.

Yep, the Nordic blue are expensive but bl**dy good. If it's good enough for a well known GUE Instructor with the amount of time he spends in the water then they were good enough to offer to our customers, quite a few of who now have them.

Cheers
