I love mine - the hydrotec ones with latex seals. No bother at all getting them on and off (once you've been shown!) and no loss of dexterity.

Pluses: you've still got your suit wrist seals in case you hole a glove; your hands are dry; no messing with the suit; not as bulky as a ring system

Minuses: not cheap; not as easy to repair as a ring system (few quid for gloves?)

I started with the Hydrotech ones, but I always had a serious faff getting the 2nd glove on.

I have now been using the RoLock ring system.

Once set up, these are so quick to get on (even quicker than wet gloves) and keep my hands much warmer than wet gloves.

As a baseline, in January in 5mm semi-dry gloves I lose the use of my hands completely after about 15-20 minutes. With dry gloves, my hands only get to the painful stage - I can still use them.

I get a slight loss of fine dexterity as my thumbs are slightly shorter than the thumbs in the gloves.

Plus the gloves only cost about £3 to replace.

I loooked into these but decided against them. The main reason being although they are warmer, they do rip very easily on wrecks etc. And then you have no insulation, so I suppose they are very good if you are very careful.

Just something to consider

Hi,

I'd have to argue with that one I'm afraid.

You'd have to go some to rip the Ro-lock gloves IMHO.

We have customers using these on serious wreck penetration dives regularly without incident.

Pricey they may be, but in terms of ring system gloves, hard to beat for quality.

Cheers

I'd second that - the RoLock dry gloves are superb and arguably the best on the market! What I like about them is a) the fleece liner is separate so if, for some reason, you do get any cold water inside one of the gloves, you can just pop on a warm dry liner for your second dive and b) the locking ring is considerably smaller than those employed by other makes of dry glove.

As Phil says, they are pricey but you definately get what you pay for with these beauties...

Recently made 2 pairs of dry gloves for £17 per pair. They are the wrist seal style. They can be a bit of a pain to fit (but I have a wee idea about this). Once on they are great, for long deco stops they are worth their weight in gold. Would recommend putting some straws under the seals and the suit seals to allow air to migrate to the gloves as when going below 15m the squeeze can be painful. All in for winter diving in the Lochs they are great. I believe seaskin do a version of them for a good price.

Dry gloves are one of those things that I'm so happy I bought. I can now dive comfortably all year round, simply couldn't do that with wet gloves, even the best ones. Downsides are that I can't get the gloves on by myself and once the lining is wet, it takes a very long time to dry out. No going back for me though.

Nah, for the locking system with first pair thrown in - you can replace the gloves dirt cheap from there on
