definitely. If 3 kg is all you need then go for a P-weight instead of a V-weight/V-chunks.. removing is much easier!

I have been thinking of how to get a few kgs of lead off my belt and on to my cylinders as well.

For the first few dives on my twin 12s I was using 6 kgs on a weightbelt and all was good, trim was fine BUT the first time I got into a little bit of deco (10 mins) and the cylinders got a bit emptier then I started to get that floaty feel and had almost all air dumped out of my dry suit which was not very comfortable (or warm).

The next dive I put 8 kgs on the belt and felt like I was being pulled through the bottom of my wing when up on the surface.

I still have a few issues with my new kit and maybe I hadn't dumped all the air from the wing properly or maybe the straps were too looses etc etc.

Anyway, in short, I wondered if a piece of copper pipe could be filled with lead, have two flattened end with wholes drilled through so that the lead could sit behind the cylinders with the twinning band studs going through the holes in the ends of the copper pipe?

Is there enough room. Maybe the copper pipe could be fixed on the outside and held in place by the nut/washer?

finless - why not just get a couple of lead shot bags and put them behind the back plate in the v channel of the cylinders - they will mould to a certain degree to the shape.. I know a couple of people who do this..

I like the copper pipe idea. However if you want to avoid all that melty lead fumes shennanigans then nip down to your local builders yard and get some lead flashing. Then get a length of stainless bar with a 9mm hole in each end at 11" centres and wrap the lead round it between the holes, tw@tting it with an adjustable hammer set to "max".

You have just made a rather tasty removeable weight that sits behind, or if you are really keen, in front of your backplate.

Alternatively do the copper pipe thing but use lead shot rather than sniffing the mad fumes.

Why thank you. The round of applause is not really necessary. Ooooo flowers- lovely. And a pair of pants. Bryan- I think these are yours.

Now my twins have gone I have a 3kg about 11" long and a 2kg one around 4" long they were from my LDS last year and are designed to sit behind the back plate the 3kg one sits on both (or just the top one) band bolts and the smaller one just hangs of the lower one.
I used these with a 1kg V weight and found that was all I needed. These cost me about £30 ish new, open to offers

Sean

Don't you find, to quote the current thread on the pocket for your regs on your BCD, that your shot pouches fall out and your long hose gets stood on?

Oh yes. You are perfectly correct. Indeed, on accasion people have tripped over my long hose ...... I mean, FFS, it's not that difficult to see on a dive boat!
