used cressi frogs for a few years. they were fine. then had to but another pair of fins (petrol + neoprene boot + fin = big sticky mess that's v hard to remove) so went for jetfins. don't think i'd ever use anything else now. cheap, bulletproof, heavy enough to dispense with ankle weights, dead easy to put on and take off.

I have Mares Quattro's and they're great, although the straps aren't to everyone's tastes (wozstraps are the answer to that one)

split fins - I personally think they are the spawn of satan because they create huge amounts of backwash thus kicking up the shit for all the other divers, but if you do wall/reef dives in big current they perform ok for that environment - still rubbish tho IMHO

Another vote for Jet fins. I bought myself a pair of Cressi Rondine As a while ago and then found some Jetfins in a dive shop for £10 a pair so I bought some as spares as they were so cheap. Thought I'd better try them at least once as there'd be no point keeping them even as spares if I didn't like them so I used them for one dive. Never used anything else since. Add a set of Woz spring straps and you'll be in fin heaven .
They're powerful, great for frog kick so you don't stir up silt and they're virtually indestructable. Only thing against them is that they are quite heavy, great if you're in a drysuit, can mess up your trim a bit in a wet suit.
Oh and hi Ed.

A ha Tony !!!!

so you've got the internet at work now !!!!!

sorry back on topic....

If you are on a budget, the plana avanti's are almost identical to the quattro's - Decathlon do a really good price for both. Unfortunately the bargain that Tony alluded to are no longer available but I think Northern Diver do a budget Jetfin

we both have the mares quattros.... steve loves his whilst I am still not convinced... I think they are really heavy and that finning is quite hard work....

but..

could be because I am totally unfit and have about as much power in the water as a tadpole without a tail

was thinking about getting the tusa imprex but 3 people at local dive club shouted (well you get my drift) NOOOOOOO - so I guess thinking about it, best I say no...

fins are such a personal issue, and when you try them on you can never be sure what they are really like until you are in the water... pain in the backside...

I was recommended splits... not sure, who knows...

Okay, I agree they are nice - if I was just doing UK diving I'd buy a pair of jetfins, but the problem is that they are heavy.... Doesnt help your weight allowance at the airport. Thats another reason why I use Frogs.

I use Tusa Expert Zooms - these are split fins (similiar to what some people call Jet Fins).

The split in the fins creates a small vortex as you fin this gives you a little xtra push and I was surprised by the speed you could work up with them!

I find this reduces my leg fatique as I don't have to fin so hard.

Obviously correct finning technique is always the issue too

Hope you find something you like!

Cheers

the fins most people talk about as 'jet fins' are the original old fashioned heavy rubber things. there are no splits in them.

'twin jets' aren't 'jet fins'

but wtf, they're all just flippers anyway...
