| Advice needed from the YD gurus, please Hi All I am looking to get a "Leatherman" style tool to carry in my wetnotes and have had a look at this. ![]() Has anyone used one of these? How stainless is it? Any other makes to consider? TIA Mal |

| Just a thought - how useful are all those little blades going to be when you're trying to open them with gloves on?

| Nice to see Mal, the Leatherman is the factory approved boris toolkit so I take it this means you're coming over to the no bubbles side ![]() Ian

The pic is a gerber, I have the exact same tool. I dropped it into a rib and it got covered in salt water once, but I forgot about it for a week or so, when I cecked it was covered in surface rust, especially around the 'hinges'. It cleaned off easily enough, but they aren't cheap and I don't think they will stand up to sustained/prolonged exposure to salt water. Even on the titanium ones, I suspect the pins and/or the springs are actually steel. Juz

| Thanks for the advice....it was less for underwater whittling that I had it in mind....more for the endless surface fettling that's required, coupled with some underwater ability e.g. the pliers ... anything else that's usable underwater would be a bonus. Mal |

| I got one wet on salt water = it did get a loverly covering of rust. I sent it back to the factory and they cleaned and greased it for me, then sent it back with a bollocking telling me not to do it again Great bit of kit! |

| Mal, Have got the earlier version, and the only tool that has got a sign of rust on it is the file, the blades etc have up til now remained rust free though after every use I give it a liberal spray of WD40. Regards StevieH ![]()
