How To Mark Your DSMB?

Hi

I have a couple of new DSMBs that I want to put my name on. As in, BIG name to be seen by the boat.

I have previously tried just using a black marker, which didn't work so great and the in smeared somewhat over the other parts of the SMB. I also tried cutting lettering from a silver space blanket and glueing that to the SMB with Bostick 2402, but the silver wore off reasonably quickly.

Anyone have any ideas that work well?

A particular type of marker pen, solas tape, gaffer tape, anything else? If this suff worked I would buy some and have a go. Though I am not sure it would take all the rolling and unrolling.

Thanks for any help.

I just use a big black permanent marker. It has to be redone every couple of years, but it doesn't smear.

You're not using a whiteboard one by any chance?

Dry Marker Pens.

When I marked mine, I did the edges of big letters using one, and then used permanent marker to tidy it up thinking the dry marker wouldcome off on its first trip out. How wrong I was! all the permanent marker came off and left the scruffy edges behind, so I tidied it up with dry marker, and it has been fine, for about 2 years now.

I bought a couple recently one for me and one for the missus. They came pre-marked which was handy. Although mine said "buddy" as did her's so we swopped them over.

Sorry Scubee, what do you mean by Dry Marker Pens? (serious question)

I guess I used a permanent marker like you did on my attempt last time.

Laundry marker. Takes a bit of colouring in but it's the right tool for the job.

If you do it in small letters the boat has to come and see who it is so it's nice and close when you surface.

You should've said at the show. There is this rubberised stuff, in all colours , that would do the job (OK its pricey at £10 a small bottle, but I think it would last a lifetime). Can't remember what it was called but somewhere in the pile of junk at home I have their flyer.... sommat like ID your kit??

Cheers, Paul

Yes, I did look at that stuff, but really wasn't sure it would last. It's all the rolling up and unrolling that takes it's toll.

I did think that a great bit bottle of that stuff would be good to completely paint your tanks in. It looked luminous and no-one would miss you in the water.

One that is best used on a whiteboard because it rubs off.

It may make a difference depending on what material the DSMB is made of. Mine is a Buddy with a bottle, so the materieal is not just plastic.
