its possible that they do make a left handed reel - don't actually know, but it would be worth enquiring!

I'm right handed, and odd in that I hold reel in right and reel with left.
This comes from my first reel being a scubapro designed to be used this way - never though anything of it until I borrowed a "right handed" reel.
Kent tooling can make your reel "left handed" if you request - I'm going to when I get my shiny new rachet reel from them for Chrimbo

Hi,
I'm left handed and find reels with thumb operated ratchet releases to be the "wrong" way round for me, as when deploying DSMB I hold reel & buoy in right hand to leave left free to operate 2nd stage valve to fill. This results in the release being on the opposite side to my thumb! Not very useful!
I therefore prefer an MGE type reel with the trigger grip type release as these are essentially "un-handed" and can be used either way up in either hand. I can then release DSMB with reel in right hand, then transfer reel to left hand to wind in with right hand on ascent.
The other answer is of course to use a spool!
Make sure you get a left handed one though!![]()
Cheers,
Mark
The first reel I had was left handed and I'm right handed and you only have to ask Mark D how I nearly killed myself not being able to get to grips with it (Capenwray). No suprise in me saying that I got rid of it and got one to use right handed.
